Dismissed Catholic Nun Alleges Sexual Harassment by Priests, Says She Has Evidence but Won’t Release It

A dismissed Catholic nun, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Kinse, has alleged that she was sexually harassed by priests within the Church and possesses evidence to support her claims, though she has chosen not to make them public.

Speaking during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, Sr. Anastasia said she was dismissed from her position at Veritas University, Abuja — owned by the Catholic Church — after exposing what she described as “sexual rot” among some clergy members.

“I find it very funny when I’m asked for evidence,” she said. “It’s not as if the evidence that I was sexually harassed by a priest doesn’t exist — they do, but I cannot put them out there. I have a video and an audio recording that shows where the Veritas HOD harassed me.”

Sr. Anastasia, who served under the Auchi Catholic Diocese in Edo State, narrated several alleged incidents involving priests.

“I told my superior about a priest I was living in the same compound with. One day, I went into his room, and he tried to touch me. My superior told me to ignore him,” she recalled.

She further claimed that in 2016, a priest asked her to accompany him to his parish for a week, an offer she refused because it “didn’t feel right.”

“Another priest once put his belt around my waist, saying he wanted to check the size of the clothes he would get me when I visit him,” she added. “That broke me. It gave me a lot of trauma — and that’s what they termed madness.”

Sr. Anastasia said she joined the congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters in 2015 but later faced hostility from church authorities for speaking out.

“The issue has always been that I was complaining,” she explained. “According to them, I was difficult. But all I wanted was for these things to stop.”

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Auchi Catholic Diocese nor Veritas University had issued an official response to her allegations.

Her claims have since sparked heated conversations online, reigniting debate about sexual misconduct and accountability within religious institutions in Nigeria.
