Police in Delta State have arrested two suspected drug dealers and rescued a kidnapped woman in separate operations carried out across the state, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, described the operations as another significant success in the ongoing crackdown on crime and illegal drug trafficking.
He said operatives of the Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Effurun in the early hours of October 12, 2025, leading to the arrest of two suspects — 33-year-old Igwe Samson and 39-year-old Abalum Sunday.
During the raid, officers recovered large quantities of illicit substances concealed in a Toyota Sienna vehicle. The haul included 450 bottles of CSP Codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol 100mg, 100 sachets of Tramadol 500mg, 300 sachets of Swinol, 50 sachets of Rophynol, and a bag of cannabis.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly operated a cross-state drug network for nearly two years, sourcing their supplies from Onitsha and moving them mostly at night to evade security patrols.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate, including their suppliers and buyers,” Edafe stated.
In a separate operation, officers from the Ovian-Aladja Police Division rescued a woman who had been abducted from her home earlier that day.
The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Friday Ekundayo, reportedly acted swiftly on a distress call received around 2 a.m., leading his team to pursue the kidnappers into a forest near the Iyara community.
Faced with sustained police pressure, the suspects abandoned their victim and escaped. The woman was rescued unhurt and later reunited with her family.
Police say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the network behind the abduction.
