Young Jonn has pushed back against critics who claim his music has become repetitive, urging them not to diminish the years of work that built his career.
The singer-producer, born John Saviours Udomboso, took to X to address a wave of backlash, with some listeners accusing him of sticking to the same sound. He asked detractors to simply move on if they do not enjoy his music rather than belittle his achievements.
“If you’re not a fan of my work, leave it at that! Don’t come here and water down my years of hard work!” he wrote.
Young Jonn first made his mark as a producer in 2010 and rose to prominence through his collaboration with Olamide’s YBNL, shaping some of the label’s most recognisable hits. His transition to singing began after signing with Chocolate City in 2022.
His breakout single Dada — and the remix featuring Davido — cemented his status as one of the industry’s most successful producer-turned-artistes.
His latest comments add to the ongoing debate about artistic evolution, fan expectations, and the pressure placed on Nigerian artistes to constantly reinvent their sound.
