The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the recently concluded Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election has mourned the death of party agent Musa Abubakar, who died while safeguarding votes at a Gwagwa polling unit.
Dr Mo, the ADC candidate, visited Abubakar’s family to express condolences and condemned the circumstances that led to his death.
Speaking at a post-election press conference, Dr Mo described the incident as a tragic consequence of attempts to alter polling unit results.
“There were instances where people changed the results from polling units, and this sad situation led to the death of Musa Abubakar at the Gwagwa polling unit as he was trying to defend his vote,” he said.
He urged electoral authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
“I am asking the proper officials to look into this issue carefully and make sure fairness is achieved. These actions harm the integrity of the voting process and erode public trust in our democracy,” Dr Mo added.
Reports confirm that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured five of the six area council chairmanship positions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving ADC with a single contested seat.
The incident has intensified debates over electoral safety and the need for stronger measures to protect party agents and polling unit staff during elections.
