Political tensions are rising ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by Governor Ademola Adeleke that the opposition party plans to deploy federal influence to manipulate the poll.
The governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, and the accusations have intensified the political battle between the ruling camp in Osun and the opposition.
In a statement issued on Sunday, APC’s Director of Media and Information in Osun, Kola Olabisi, described the governor’s claims as baseless and politically motivated.
According to him, the allegations appear to be an attempt to prepare the public for a possible defeat in the upcoming election.
“The allegation that our party intends to rely on federal might to win the governorship election is a mere figment of the imagination of some rumour mongers,” Olabisi said.
He insisted that the party is focusing on grassroots mobilisation and strategic political engagement across the state rather than any unlawful influence on the electoral process.
The APC spokesman also pointed to recent political realignments in Osun, claiming that several prominent figures previously aligned with the governor’s political camp have now joined the party.
Among those mentioned were Shuaib Oyedokun, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi and Wole Oke.
He also referenced the defection of political figures such as Dotun Babayemi and Akin Ogunbiyi, describing the developments as signs of shifting political momentum in the state.
Olabisi said these changes have strengthened the party’s prospects ahead of the election.
The APC further expressed confidence in its candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, saying he is gaining support across communities.
“Our governorship candidate is a serious contender who is going into the August 2026 election to win convincingly without resorting to fraudulent means,” the spokesman said.
Governor Adeleke, however, has maintained his warning about possible attempts to intimidate voters.
While addressing leaders and ward officials of the Accord Party across Osun’s 332 wards in Osogbo, he urged political actors to avoid using federal authority to influence the electoral process.
“Federal might is for good governance, not election rigging,” the governor said.
He also called on residents of the state to remain vigilant ahead of the vote, stressing that the will of the electorate must determine the outcome of the election.
