ADC Youths Protest in Katsina, Give INEC 74-Hour Ultimatum Over Party Leadership Disput

Tension is building within Nigeria’s opposition space as youths of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) staged a protest in Katsina, demanding urgent intervention from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over a leadership dispute rocking the party.

The demonstrators, who marched along Daura Road, delivered a clear message: resolve the crisis or face a wave of nationwide civic actions. Their protest, themed “Amupitan Must Go,” ended at the INEC office in Katsina, where they submitted a formal petition outlining their demands.

At the heart of the protest is a push to reinstate the leadership structure associated with David Mark on INEC’s official portal. The group insists that recent actions by the electoral body have disrupted internal party stability and could undermine preparations for the ADC’s upcoming national convention.

Led by Jamilu Yahaya, the protesters also called on INEC to issue a public apology to Nigerians, alleging that some of its decisions have eroded confidence in its neutrality. They argued that any action affecting party leadership should be based strictly on clear judicial pronouncements, not pending motions or disputed communications.

The youths further warned that failure to act within 74 hours could trigger broader, but lawful, nationwide protests. According to them, the situation is not just an internal party issue but a test of the electoral body’s credibility ahead of future elections.

INEC officials in Katsina received the protest letter through Administrative Secretary Ibrahim Dari, who assured the group that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for review.

The development adds another layer of pressure on INEC as political parties intensify preparations for upcoming electoral cycles, with internal disputes increasingly spilling into public demonstrations.
