Uzodimma Pledges Transparent APC Primaries in Imo as 2027 Election Race Heats Up

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has assured aspirants of a fair and transparent candidate selection process under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the next general elections.

The governor gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC state secretariat in Owerri, where party leaders, lawmakers, and aspirants gathered to review preparations for the polls.

According to a statement by the party’s publicity secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, Uzodimma emphasized that internal democracy would guide the party’s primaries.

“The party shall uphold the highest standards of internal democracy and fair competition,” he said, urging aspirants to remain loyal, disciplined, and respectful of the outcome of the process.

He noted that the large number of aspirants emerging within the party reflects its growing acceptance in Imo State, attributing this to what he described as people-focused policies and governance initiatives.

Uzodimma also commended National Assembly members, state lawmakers, and party executives for strengthening the APC’s structure and influence across the state.

He praised the state party leadership under chairman Austin Onyedebelu, describing their efforts since the last congresses as key to stabilising the party.

The governor further revealed plans to construct a larger APC state secretariat and directed the party leadership to secure land through the Ministry of Lands.

Stakeholders present at the meeting included lawmakers, former deputy governors, senior government officials, party leaders, and aspirants, reflecting the high political stakes ahead of the 2027 elections.

Internal democracy has remained a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s political system, with disputes over primaries often triggering defections and weakening party unity.

As election preparations intensify, political parties are under growing pressure to ensure transparent and inclusive primaries that can strengthen credibility and improve their chances at the polls.
