A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gwarzo confirmed his resignation in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the party chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.
According to him, the move followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across the state.
“The decision follows careful thought and consultations with my associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state,” he said.
He attributed his exit to what he described as a “changing political climate,” noting that recent developments had made it necessary to reassess his position within the party.
“The changing political climate has made it necessary for me to reassess my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and country,” Gwarzo stated.
He added that his decision was driven by his commitment to public service, democratic values, and sustainable development.
“My decision is based on patriotic reasons and the need to follow a political direction that reflects my vision for good governance,” he said.
Despite his exit, Gwarzo expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the ADC for their support during his time in the party.
However, he did not disclose his next political move, fueling speculation about possible alignment with another platform as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to intensify.
His resignation comes at a time of growing realignments within opposition parties, raising questions about the stability and future direction of smaller political platforms like the ADC.
