Emir of Gazargamu, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, Dies in Egypt After Prolonged Illness

A wave of mourning has hit Gazargamu following the death of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness.

The respected traditional ruler died on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, bringing an end to a reign widely described as service-driven and people-focused.

His death was confirmed in a statement by his son, Engr. Tijjani Hamisu Bala, the General Manager of the Yobe State Road Maintenance Agency (YORMA), who announced the passing with deep sorrow.

“With profound sorrow and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of my beloved father, namesake and traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, the Emir of Gazargamu, who returned to his Creator today, June 9, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a protracted illness,” the statement read.

Family sources said the late emir had been battling illness for an extended period before his passing abroad, where he was receiving medical attention.

Tributes have begun to pour in from associates and community members who described him as a calm and influential traditional ruler whose leadership was anchored on wisdom, humility, and courage.

According to the family statement, his life was dedicated to the service of his people and humanity, earning him respect across traditional and political circles.

As preparations begin for burial arrangements in line with Islamic rites, the community awaits further announcements from the family and relevant authorities.
