‘Stop Electing Dullards as Governors’ — Ogun ADC Candidate Urges Nigerians Ahead of 2027 Elections

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State, Biodun Collins Ogundipe, has urged Nigerians to prioritise competence, character and proven capacity when electing leaders, warning that poor leadership at the state level continues to hinder the country’s development.

Speaking during a media chat in Abeokuta on Monday, Ogundipe argued that many states remain underdeveloped because voters repeatedly elect individuals who lack the vision, experience and skills required for effective governance.

He called on Nigerians, particularly young voters, to carefully assess candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to look beyond political parties, financial inducements and ethnic considerations.

According to him, aspirants seeking public office should be able to present verifiable achievements and demonstrate how they have successfully managed businesses, organisations or previous public responsibilities before asking to be entrusted with public resources.

“People should ask candidates to show their track records and explain how they intend to improve the lives of citizens,” Ogundipe said, adding that campaign promises without practical development plans should no longer be accepted by voters.

The ADC governorship hopeful also criticised what he described as the neglect of grassroots communities, insisting that governance should focus on improving the welfare of ordinary citizens rather than serving political interests.

On security, Ogundipe argued that modern policing requires more than the deployment of armed personnel and expensive equipment. He maintained that intelligence gathering, crime prediction, prevention and rapid response systems should form the foundation of effective security management.

He further criticised state governments for spending billions of naira on armoured vehicles and patrol equipment while, according to him, technology-driven security solutions powered by artificial intelligence could deliver more effective and sustainable results in tackling crime.
