Burna Boy, Shakira Make World Cup History as ‘Dai Dai’ Overtakes ‘Waka Waka’ on Billboard Hot 100

Burna Boy has added another milestone to his growing list of global achievements after his World Cup collaboration with Shakira, “Dai Dai,” became the highest-charting FIFA World Cup song in Billboard Hot 100 history.

The record-breaking single climbed 25 places this week to reach No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Shakira and Freshlyground’s iconic 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which previously held the record.

Meanwhile, Billboard has officially discontinued its World Digital Song Sales chart. The publication confirmed that the final edition of the chart was released on June 27, 2026.

The chart served as an important platform for commercially successful songs from regions including Nigeria, Asia, the Caribbean, and South Africa. Over the years, several Nigerian stars, including Wizkid, Mr Eazi, and Rema, reached the top of the ranking, underscoring the growing global impact of Afrobeats.
