Osun Election: Nigerians Demand Senator Fadahunsi’s Arrest Over Alleged Threat Against Accord Supporters

Calls for the arrest of Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, have intensified after a video circulating online allegedly showed the lawmaker threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The video, which has sparked widespread reactions, purportedly showed Fadahunsi addressing APC supporters during a protest over alleged attacks on party members in Ilesa. He was allegedly heard urging supporters to confront Accord Party members and stop them from voting.

The alleged remarks have triggered concerns over voter safety and the possibility of political violence as Osun prepares for the August 15 governorship poll. Several Nigerians have called on Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate the matter and take immediate action if the claims are established.

APC chieftain Babafemi Ojudu also urged the police chief to act, describing the alleged statement as unacceptable in a democratic society. “This is unacceptable in a democracy,” Ojudu wrote on Facebook, adding, “IGP Tunde Disu, over to you. We await action.”

Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, said he had raised the matter with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of the senator. Adeleke described the alleged threat as more than a political dispute, calling it a national security concern that should also attract the attention of President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser.

According to Adeleke, the police chief had confirmed seeing the video and assured him that action would be taken. The governor said the situation required urgent intervention to protect voters and prevent tension from escalating before election day.

Fadahunsi, however, has denied making the remarks attributed to him. Speaking to TVC News on Tuesday night, the senator claimed the viral footage was artificially generated. “The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” he said.

The conflicting claims have placed renewed attention on political rhetoric and election security in Osun. With voters set to head to the polls on Saturday, the police and other security agencies face growing pressure to establish the authenticity of the video and ensure that all eligible voters can participate without intimidation.
