2027: NDC Fields Candidates Across Nigeria, Plans 13-Man Polling Unit Structure — Umeh

Anambra Central Senator Victor Umeh has said the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fielded candidates for all elective positions across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Umeh made the claim on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he discussed the party’s preparations for the elections.

According to the senator, having candidates across constituencies would allow the NDC to establish a stronger presence at polling units nationwide.

“If a party is present in all the constituencies in Nigeria with candidates contesting the election, the party will be closer to the polling units. It will be a different case where you don’t have candidates; the party will be absent in the polling units,” Umeh said.

He said the NDC was satisfied with its level of candidate participation and would strongly contest the 2027 elections across the country.

“Today, the NDC has been able to field candidates for all the positions that are being contested in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

Umeh also disclosed that the party had begun preparations to protect its votes at polling units during the election.

He said the NDC had established a 13-man executive structure at polling-unit level, known as Polling Booth Executives, as part of its mobilisation strategy.

The senator explained that the structure would help the party develop and deploy polling agents to represent it during the elections.

“NDC has a structure where every polling unit will have 13 people dedicated to duty on the day of the election,” Umeh said.

He added that the party was building the structure nationwide to ensure adequate representation at polling units.

Umeh said the NDC’s focus on polling-unit structures was driven by the need to have party agents present to monitor the electoral process and protect the party’s votes.

He maintained that a polling unit with an established 13-member structure should be capable of producing an agent to represent the party during the 2027 general elections.

The senator’s comments come as political parties intensify preparations, candidate mobilisation and grassroots organisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
