A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola has ordered the remand of two young men accused of the brutal killing of a 14-year-old boy in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State, a case that has shocked the local community.
The suspects, Safiyanu Mohammed, 22, and Muhammed Bello, 20, were ordered into custody by Chief Magistrate Bello Ismail after they were arraigned on multiple criminal charges linked to the incident.
The defendants are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, theft, and culpable homicide under the Adamawa State Penal Code Law. The court directed that they remain in prison custody while investigations continue.
According to police prosecutors, the incident occurred on March 30, 2026, in Shelleng Local Government Area, where the victim, identified as 14-year-old Nyalli Muktari, was reported missing after leaving Babban Dada village.
Authorities say the boy’s disappearance triggered a search operation by police and residents, which later led to the discovery of his body in a nearby bush.
Investigators allege the suspects lured the victim under the guise of delivering a mobile phone on behalf of another individual, before attacking him.
Prosecutors told the court that after the boy delivered the phone, he was allegedly killed because the suspects feared he could identify them. His body was later dumped in a nearby bush.
Police say the breakthrough came after tracking the mobile phone involved in the incident, which led to the arrest of the suspects. Both men reportedly confessed during interrogation.
The case has raised fresh concerns over violent crime involving minors in parts of Adamawa State, as authorities continue efforts to curb rising insecurity at community level.
The court has adjourned proceedings as investigations continue.
