Adekunle Gold: Nigeria Is Not Practising True Democracy

Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has expressed concern about the state of democracy in Nigeria, saying the country is not practising true democracy.

The singer made the comment during a recent episode of the One54 Podcast while discussing his colleague, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his appeal to United States President Donald Trump over developments surrounding the Osun State governorship election.

Adekunle Gold said he believed Davido’s decision to draw Trump’s attention to the election was connected to his concerns about Nigeria’s democratic system.

“I think Davido sent that message to Donald Trump because we are not truly practising democracy in Nigeria,” he said.

The ‘Orente’ crooner argued that Nigeria was not operating in the way he believed a democratic society should, expressing concern about the country’s governance and democratic values.

Adekunle Gold, however, said he remained hopeful that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would perform better than the previous government and make progress in upholding democratic principles.

“I just hope this administration does better than the previous one,” the singer added.

His comments come amid continuing public debate over Nigeria’s electoral process, governance and the credibility of democratic institutions.
