Eight kidnapped victims have regained their freedom in Ondo State after operatives of the Amotekun Corps carried out a rescue operation that ended in a fierce confrontation with suspected kidnappers.
The rescue mission, which was executed without the payment of any ransom, marks another breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
Confirming the development, the Ondo State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adeleye, said the victims were rescued during a coordinated operation against their abductors. He noted that some of the victims had been kidnapped from the Ilado community in Akure North Local Government Area.
Among those rescued was Fagbonmire Durojaiye, a pastor and teacher serving with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), whose abduction had raised concern among residents and members of the church.
According to Adeleye, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N30 million from the victims’ families before security operatives launched the rescue mission.
The Amotekun commander disclosed that the operation was not without resistance, as the security team engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle while attempting to secure the victims’ release.
Despite the exchange of gunfire, the operatives successfully overpowered the criminals and rescued all eight victims unharmed, preventing the payment of the huge ransom demanded by the abductors.
The latest rescue has been welcomed by residents, who continue to call for stronger security measures to address recurring cases of kidnapping in parts of Ondo State and the wider South-West region.
