AMVCA 2026: Guinness World Records Reacts as BBNaija Star Queen Mercy Atang’s Bread Dress Sparks Global Buzz

Former Big Brother Naija star Queen Mercy Atang has ignited fresh conversations online after Guinness World Records reacted to her viral bread-inspired outfit worn at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

The reality TV personality, popularly known as Queen, became one of the most talked-about celebrities at the AMVCA after arriving on the red carpet in a dramatic costume designed to resemble loaves of bread — a bold fashion statement tied to her bakery business.

The conversation took an unexpected turn when Guinness World Records commented under a video she posted on Instagram, hinting at a possible connection to an existing world record.

“Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm,” the organisation wrote, immediately triggering speculation among fans and social media users.

Excited by the reaction, Queen responded directly to the comment, writing: “Hello @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section.”

The exchange has since fueled even more attention around the outfit, with many Nigerians debating whether the unconventional design could inspire a future record attempt or a new fashion category altogether.

According to Guinness World Records, the current title for the world’s largest wearable cake dress weighs 131.15 kilograms and was achieved by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas of SweetyCakes GmbH in Switzerland in January 2023.

Queen’s AMVCA appearance had already divided opinion online before the Guinness reaction. While some critics described the outfit as excessive and theatrical, others praised it as one of the smartest branding moves seen on an African red carpet in recent years.

Explaining the inspiration behind the costume, the BBNaija star said the outfit symbolised her journey as a businesswoman in the food industry.

“AMVCA 2026 ready. I come as an entrepreneur who runs a bread EMPIRE,” she wrote on social media while unveiling the look.

The viral attention surrounding the outfit has also sparked wider discussions about celebrity branding, entrepreneurship and fashion marketing in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Queen later proposed the idea of creating an entrepreneurs-focused event as part of the AMVCA celebrations. In an open letter addressed to MultiChoice Group and Africa Magic, she suggested an “AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night” dedicated to showcasing Nigerian brands, creativity and innovation.

Since the red carpet appearance, AI-generated recreations of brand-themed outfits inspired by Queen’s bread dress have flooded social media, while fashion influencers outside Nigeria have also joined conversations around the unusual concept.
