Bayelsa APC Will Remain Strong Despite Sylva’s Resignation, Nabena Says

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State will remain strong and united despite the resignation of former governor Timipre Sylva, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, has said.

Sylva, who also served as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, announced his resignation from the APC on August 31. He said the party had drifted from the principles and ideals that guided its formation.

Nabena, however, dismissed concerns that Sylva’s departure could destabilise the Bayelsa APC, insisting that the party’s structure was bigger than any individual member.

He claimed that about 90 per cent of APC members and stakeholders in the state would remain with the party despite Sylva’s exit.

“APC in Bayelsa is bigger than one man. The majority of our members and stakeholders remain committed to the party, and we will continue to work together to strengthen it,” Nabena said.

The former APC spokesperson maintained that the party’s structure in Bayelsa remained intact and that its members were still committed to working together.

Nabena also expressed confidence that the APC would preserve its support base in the state and remain competitive in future elections.

His comments come as Sylva’s resignation adds another major development to the political landscape in Bayelsa, where the APC has been seeking to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections
