Charly Boy Reveals How He Connected Obasanjo With Isbae U for Viral ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ Interview

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed that he helped connect former President Olusegun Obasanjo with skitmaker Isbae U for the viral YouTube show Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Charly Boy made the disclosure in a social media post on Monday while reflecting on the widely discussed interview. He said his decision to facilitate the meeting was motivated by a desire to bring different generations together and create opportunities for younger Nigerians.

“Sometimes, the greatest thing you can give a young person isn’t money. It’s an opportunity. Look at what happened when Baba entered Bae U’s world,” Charly Boy wrote on X.

The activist praised the former president for embracing the unusual and often sarcastic style of the comedy programme. He said Obasanjo, despite his long political and diplomatic career, was willing to engage with the younger host on his own terms.

“A man of his age and experience sat down with a young man whose style is completely different from what he is used to. Baba didn’t just sit there looking serious. He played along and showed Nigerians another side of himself,” Charly Boy said.

He also confirmed that he personally played a role in making the collaboration happen. According to him, he believed strongly enough in the young people behind the programme to bring the former president into their space.

The interview generated attention online after Isbae U jokingly told Obasanjo that the former president used to be his employee and that he paid his rent at Aso Rock. Obasanjo played along with the humour and also responded to questions about popular entertainment figures including Don Jazzy, Poco Lee and Carter Efe, claiming he did not know them.

Beyond the viral moments, Charly Boy said the encounter showed what can happen when older Nigerians create space for younger people to showcase their ideas and talents. He urged members of the older generation to go beyond giving advice by recommending young people, opening doors for them and trusting them with meaningful opportunities.

He also encouraged young Nigerians to take responsibility for building their own futures rather than waiting for opportunities to be handed to them. Charly Boy said lasting legacy is created when different generations support one another, collaborate and create room for growth.
