Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has announced the successful conclusion of its Initial Public Offering (IPO), attracting investor applications from 120 countries across six inhabited continents, including all 54 African countries.

The company described the offering as a landmark transaction for African capital markets, highlighting its potential to expand public participation in strategic industrial investments and create broader ownership opportunities for the continent’s investors.

Dubbed The People’s IPO, the offering was designed to make investment in one of Africa’s major industrial assets accessible to a wider range of participants beyond institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals.

According to the company, the transaction was supported by commercial banks, stockbroking firms, fintech platforms, capital market institutions and distribution partners. Their collaboration helped extend access to the offer across national borders and facilitate participation by retail investors.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, described the outcome as an affirmation of African confidence and the continent’s capacity to mobilise domestic and international capital for industrial development.

“When we set out to build this refinery, many doubted that a project of this scale could be delivered by Africans. We proved that Africa could build it. Today, through this historic IPO, we have demonstrated something equally important: Africans are ready to own and participate in the prosperity created by their own industries,” Dangote said.

He described participation from all 54 African countries as particularly significant, saying it demonstrated that Africans wanted to invest in and share ownership of businesses operating on the continent.

Dangote explained that the IPO was not undertaken solely to raise capital but also to create opportunities for ordinary Africans to participate in an industrial enterprise of international significance.

He added that the company remained committed to expanding its operations, strengthening energy security across Africa and advancing its Vision 2030 strategy while delivering long-term value to investors.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, David Bird, said the international response reflected investor confidence in the refinery’s industrial capacity, operational capabilities and growth prospects.

“The successful conclusion of this IPO is a remarkable milestone for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals. Investor applications spanning 120 countries demonstrate the extraordinary international interest in our business and the confidence that investors are placing in the future of this refinery,” Bird said.

He added that the company’s focus would remain on operational excellence, sustainable growth and long-term shareholder value.

The IPO opened on September 14, 2026, with 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at N525 per share, representing a proposed capital raise of approximately N2.15 trillion.

The offer was initially scheduled to close on October 13 but was extended to October 27 following approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission to allow additional investors in Africa and other international markets to participate.

Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Murat Erden, also highlighted the transaction’s wider significance for African capital markets, describing it as an important precedent for expanding investment participation across the continent.

The company said the offering represented a significant step towards broadening African ownership of strategic industrial assets. However, the announcement provided no final figures for the total number of investors, the level of subscription or the amount of capital ultimately raised.
