The Delta State Sports Commission has offered a N200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who allegedly attacked match officials following Warri Wolves’ home draw against Kano Pillars on Sunday.

The commission announced the reward in a statement signed by Warri Wolves secretary, Henry Ukah, describing the incident as heartbreaking.

The attack reportedly occurred outside the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro after the match.

According to the statement, the match officials had been escorted out of the stadium by security personnel and had reached their bus parked outside the venue when the assault took place.

Chairman of the commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, said the reward was intended to help identify and secure the immediate arrest of the suspect.

He reiterated the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism and violence in football, stressing the need to protect match officials and ensure safety at sporting events.

Oborevwori urged members of the public with credible information about the incident to report to the police at the Ughelli Area Command, where the case had been reported.

The commission’s move comes amid renewed calls for measures to curb violence against match officials and promote a safe environment for football in Delta State.
