Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has called on citizens to strengthen national unity and support ongoing reforms aimed at rebuilding the country’s economy and security system.
In his Eid-el-Kabir 2026 message, Shettima urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience, compassion and faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, stressing that such principles remain essential to national progress.
The Vice President said the country’s current challenges require collective sacrifice, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens, regardless of ethnic, political or religious differences.
“This is a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood,” Shettima stated.
“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity.”
According to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President noted that the administration of Bola Tinubu remains focused on restoring stability and creating opportunities for Nigerians despite current economic difficulties.
He acknowledged that the country is undergoing a difficult reform process but insisted the measures are necessary to secure long-term growth and prosperity.
“Our nation is undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a more stable and prosperous future for generations to come,” he said.
“While the reforms may require patience and sacrifice, they are necessary steps toward rebuilding a stronger Nigeria.”
Shettima also appealed to Nigerians to support the government’s reform agenda, saying unity and shared responsibility are critical in addressing insecurity, poverty and social instability.
The Vice President assured citizens that the Federal Government remains committed to improving security nationwide and commended members of the armed forces and security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting the country.
He added that despite ongoing economic and security pressures, the country is gradually moving toward recovery and sustainable development.
“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come. Nigeria is steadily advancing on the path of peace, recovery, and sustainable development,” Shettima stated.
The message comes as many Nigerians continue to grapple with inflation, rising living costs and insecurity in several parts of the country.
