ESUT Suspends Three Law Students for Two Years Over Examination Malpractice

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has suspended three students of its Faculty of Law for two academic years after they were found liable for examination malpractice.

The suspension, which began on June 25, 2026, will remain in effect until June 24, 2028, according to separate memos issued to the affected students by the university Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu.

The students are two males and one female — Isong Ugwu, with registration number ESUT/2023030212973; Gad Nwosu, ESUT/2022030203441; and Roseline Nnamani, ESUT/2024030219772.

Ugwu said the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, approved the sanctions on behalf of the University Senate, following recommendations from the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee.

As part of the disciplinary measures, the affected students were ordered to hand over any university property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department and leave the campus immediately. The university also notified their sponsors and the National Universities Commission (NUC) of the decision.

The Registrar said the students will have to apply for readmission after completing their two-year suspension in June 2028. Their return to the university will therefore not be automatic.

Meanwhile, ESUT cleared another Faculty of Law student, Goodluck Iwuamadi, of an examination malpractice allegation. Ugwu said Iwuamadi, whose registration number is ESUT/2025030227502, was exonerated in line with the recommendation of the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee.

The disciplinary action highlights the university’s enforcement of its examination rules, while the exoneration of Iwuamadi shows that the malpractice process also resulted in a student being cleared of the allegation.
