Wike Breaks Silence on APC 2027 Campaign Council DG Rumours, Backs Tinubu’s Re-election

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has denied reports that he is lobbying to become Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike said he has neither sought the position nor held discussions with anyone about taking a leadership or membership role in the proposed campaign council.

The reports had listed the minister among senior APC figures and government officials allegedly interested in leading the campaign structure. Wike, however, dismissed the claims as untrue.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said he remains committed to President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that he does not need a formal position in the campaign council to support Tinubu’s re-election. He said his priority would remain contributing to the President’s electoral success in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike also disclosed that he was currently outside Nigeria, taking a break after more than 30 days of official activities in the FCT. During the period, he said he had commissioned completed projects, flagged off new ones and inspected ongoing projects, including those expected to be commissioned in December and January.

He said he would return to continue implementing his mandate in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while working to strengthen the President’s electoral prospects in Rivers and the FCT.

Wike added that he was confident he could contribute to a strong victory for Tinubu without becoming either the Director-General or a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
