Political momentum is building in Imo State as former Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, formally declares his readiness to contest the Owerri Zone senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), promising a focused bid anchored on experience, structure and grassroots engagement.
Madumere, who addressed party stakeholders during consultations in Ahiazu Mbaise, said his ambition is driven by the need to strengthen representation, restore political balance in Owerri Zone, and deepen inclusion in governance. He also insisted that his political background gives him a clear edge in delivering electoral victory for the PDP.
The former deputy governor expressed confidence in his network across Imo State, describing it as a major asset in mobilising support for the party. He stressed that years of political engagement and public service have prepared him for what he described as a decisive electoral contest.
He highlighted youth empowerment and job creation as key pillars of his legislative agenda, arguing that the zone requires stronger economic interventions to unlock opportunities for young people and improve livelihoods.
Madumere also acknowledged the role of party leaders in sustaining the PDP through challenging periods, commending the party’s national leadership and describing internal unity as critical to winning future elections.
During the engagement, he maintained that credibility and grassroots connection remain central to electoral success, adding that his campaign will rely on established structures and sustained community relationships across the zone.
Party stakeholders and local executives who received him described the visit as a unifying moment for the PDP in the area, noting renewed enthusiasm among members ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
The development adds to growing early positioning within Imo State politics as aspirants across parties intensify consultations and alliance-building ahead of a highly competitive senatorial race.
