FCT Police Rescue Four Kidnap Victims After Gun Battle with Abductors in AbujaARTICLE

A coordinated rescue operation by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has led to the safe recovery of four residents abducted during a kidnapping attack in the Mpape area of Abuja after security operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle.

The operation followed a late-night attack on the Yellow House area of Mpape, where armed kidnappers invaded the community, killing one resident, injuring another, and abducting four others before fleeing into the Jikoko Hills.

In a statement issued on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the incident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday when the command received a distress call reporting the attack.

The statement explained that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, immediately mobilised operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, officers from the Katampe and Mpape Divisions, as well as personnel of the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron, to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victims.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers shot two residents before forcing four others into captivity and marching them through the Jikoko Hills toward the Ushafa Forest.

“Upon their arrival, preliminary findings revealed that the assailants had shot two victims before fleeing the scene. It was also discovered that the assailants had taken four other victims hostage from a nearby area whom they forcefully marched through Jikoko Hills towards Ushafa Forest,” Adeh said.

The police confirmed that security operatives pursued the kidnappers into the surrounding area, leading to a gun battle that resulted in the successful rescue of all four abducted residents.

While one of the victims who was shot during the attack died, the second victim is receiving medical treatment and is responding positively, according to the police.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the territory, assuring residents that efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
