The Federal Government is planning to establish additional Ebola treatment centres across states as the number of identified contacts linked to Nigeria’s Ebola outbreak rises to 53.

The move is aimed at strengthening the country’s preparedness, improving healthcare capacity and ensuring a more effective response to any possible further transmission of the virus.

As part of the response, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has also approved weekly financial support of ₦100,000 for individuals placed in isolation or quarantine.

Health authorities are intensifying surveillance and response measures while monitoring people who may have been exposed to the virus.

The planned expansion of treatment facilities is expected to improve the country’s ability to manage suspected or confirmed cases and support efforts to contain the outbreak.

However, the figure of 53 represents identified contacts being monitored and should not be interpreted as 53 confirmed Ebola infections.

Public health officials continue to emphasise the importance of vigilance and compliance with official health guidance as monitoring efforts continue.

Nigerians are advised to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms consistent with Ebola or believe they may have been exposed to the virus. They are also encouraged to rely on updates from the NCDC and other credible health authorities.
