The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, has said Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases following the medical evacuation of the infected patient and her husband to Switzerland.

Janabi disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday, adding that Nigeria would continue monitoring 52 contacts linked to the case.

He said the evacuation took place earlier in the day and confirmed that both the patient and her husband were Swiss citizens.

According to the WHO official, the patient was clinically stable after Nigerian medical teams successfully managed her through the acute phase of the illness and stabilised her condition.

Under the follow-up arrangements, Nigeria will continue monitoring the 52 identified contacts, while Switzerland will take responsibility for the patient’s continued medical care and monitor her husband, identified as contact number 53.

Janabi congratulated the Federal Government, health workers, clinicians, emergency responders and other partners who contributed to Nigeria’s response to the Ebola case.

He described the development as a significant achievement, noting that the successful management of the patient demonstrated Africa’s expertise, resilience and leadership in public health.

The WHO regional director also highlighted the importance of cooperation among countries in responding effectively to public health emergencies.

Despite the evacuation, Janabi warned that continued vigilance remained essential to prevent further transmission of the virus.

He stressed the need for sustained contact monitoring and other public health response measures to ensure that the situation remained under control.

The development follows the Federal Government’s earlier confirmation of Nigeria’s first imported Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory and the subsequent evacuation of the patient to Switzerland.

Authorities have continued to emphasise the importance of following credible public health updates as
