Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has filed a N15 billion defamation suit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to an alleged kickback demand from a N27.3 billion government grant.

The suit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, follows claims made by Adeyemi, who identified himself as the Director-General of the reportedly non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Adeyemi had alleged during a press conference on June 25, 2026, that Gbajabiamila demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a N27.3 billion take-off grant approved for a federal agency. He also claimed the presidential aide received N400 million through a proxy and later requested an additional N200 million.

Gbajabiamila, through his legal team, had earlier issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Adeyemi, demanding a public retraction of the allegations and an apology. The deadline expired without compliance, prompting the legal action.

In the fresh suit, the Chief of Staff is seeking N10 billion as general damages, N5 billion as aggravated damages, and N200 million to cover the cost of the legal proceedings.

He is also asking the court to compel Adeyemi to publish a full retraction of the allegations and an unreserved apology in five national newspapers.

The legal action comes shortly after Adeyemi’s arrest by police operatives in Osun State. His arrest followed a warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja, ordering law enforcement authorities to apprehend him.

The case is expected to test the allegations made against the Chief of Staff as well as the legal consequences of publishing claims alleged to be defamatory.
