Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has thrown down a bold challenge to his critics, declaring that he will resign if anyone can prove his administration exaggerated its record on road construction across Abuja’s satellite towns.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Wike defended his administration’s infrastructure achievements as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.

The former Rivers State governor said his administration has awarded contracts covering 317 kilometres of roads in the FCT’s satellite communities and has already completed 221 kilometres, insisting the figures are verifiable.

Wike maintained that residents of satellite towns are witnessing a level of infrastructure development never experienced under previous administrations. He cited major road projects, including the Apo–Karishi and Bwari–Kubwa roads, which he said are scheduled for completion before the end of the year.

“The road from Apo to Karishi will be completed before the end of this year, the road from Bwari to Kubwa will be completed before the end of this year. The satellite town people have felt the impact of governance. It has never happened in the history of the administrations of this country,” he said.

The minister challenged anyone disputing his claims to present evidence publicly within 48 hours, saying he would immediately step down if proven wrong.

“If there is anybody who has a contrary view, let him come out and challenge us that all these that you are saying is not correct, I will resign as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike declared.

Reiterating his stance, he added: “If you know that you have a contrary view to what I have said, I challenge you in the next 48 hours to come on national television and say that since this administration came, we have not awarded 317 kilometres of roads in the satellite towns and have not completed 221 kilometres. I will resign as the Minister of the FCT.”

Wike has consistently highlighted infrastructure development as one of the major achievements of the Tinubu administration in the FCT, with several road projects commissioned over the past year to improve connectivity and ease transportation across the capital territory.
