The Kano State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state following a formal screening and legislative approval process.

His confirmation came during plenary on Tuesday, presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore, marking the completion of the constitutional process required to fill the vacant position.

The nomination followed the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, which created a leadership gap in the state executive structure.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, who chaired the ad hoc committee, explained that Garo’s screening was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee when such a vacancy arises.

During the exercise, Garo was questioned extensively on his academic background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and his proposed contributions to the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Lawmakers also verified his credentials as part of the screening process, ensuring compliance with legislative standards and suitability for the role.

According to the committee, the nominee demonstrated a clear grasp of the responsibilities attached to the office of Deputy Governor and outlined plans aimed at strengthening governance and supporting the current administration.

Following the presentation, the committee recommended his confirmation, a position that was subsequently adopted by the House without objection.

With the approval now concluded, Garo is expected to assume office and begin supporting executive functions within the Kano State Government.
