Kanu Nwankwo Urges Enyimba Fans to Stay Behind Team After Poor Start

Enyimba chairman Kanu Nwankwo has appealed to the club’s supporters to continue backing the team following its difficult start to the new NPFL season.

The People’s Elephant suffered a 1-0 defeat to newcomers Inter Lagos at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.

The result left Enyimba without a point from their opening three league matches, with the nine-time champions sitting at the bottom of the table.

The poor start comes after Enyimba only secured their top-flight status on the final day of last season.

With the team looking to turn its fortunes around, coach Emmanuel Deutsch’s side will host Sporting Lagos in a Matchday 5 fixture on Wednesday.

Kanu acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the team’s results but urged supporters to remain patient and continue showing their support.

“The times have not been most favourable. We understand the weight of the disappointing loses and we are determined to make things right,” Kanu said in a statement posted on the club’s official X account.

He also praised the fans for turning out in the rain to support the team against Inter Lagos despite the eventual defeat.

“In the rain, you came out to support us against Inter Lagos. Though it did go our way, you supported us till the final minute, and we can not take your support for granted,” he said.

Kanu called on supporters to stand by the team as it seeks to recover from its poor start, stressing that a victory against Sporting Lagos could provide the boost needed to begin a resurgence.

“We are used to victories and we are proud of that culture. Come cheer us to victory as we kick off a resurgence. We will get it right,” he added.
