Mbappe Confident of Winning 2026 Ballon d’Or

France and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe says he is confident of winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or after a season in which he finished as the leading scorer across several major competitions.

The 27-year-old was the top scorer at the 2026 World Cup and also finished first in the scoring charts in both La Liga and the Champions League last season.

Mbappe scored 25 goals in La Liga and 15 in the Champions League before adding 10 goals at the World Cup. His World Cup tally also took his career total in the tournament to 22 goals, making him its all-time leading scorer.

Despite his individual numbers, Mbappe did not lift a major trophy during the period under consideration. France were eliminated in the World Cup semi-finals, while Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

Speaking to RFI, Mbappe said individual performances could play an important role in determining the Ballon d’Or winner.

“The ability to perform individually and produce eye-catching moments, that’s what stands out to people for an award like this.”

Mbappe added that his scoring record in the biggest competitions gives him confidence that he has a strong case for the individual honour.

However, he faces competition from several players who combined individual performances with major team success in 2026.

Barcelona forwards Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres won La Liga and the World Cup, while Paris Saint-Germain pair Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane also won the Bundesliga.

The Ballon d’Or winner will ultimately be determined by the award’s voting process, with Mbappe’s scoring record and the achievements of his rivals forming part of the wider debate over this year’s honour.
