Mayorkun Warns Upcoming Artistes Against Copying Wizkid’s Mysterious Image

Nigerian singer Mayorkun has cautioned upcoming artistes against trying to copy Wizkid’s mysterious public image before establishing themselves in the music industry.
The singer advised emerging musicians to prioritise building their careers, gaining visibility and connecting with fans instead of imitating the lifestyle and public image of already established stars.
According to Mayorkun, adopting a low-profile approach too early could make it difficult for new artistes to attract attention in an increasingly competitive music industry.
“Trying to maintain a mysterious image like Wizkid as a newcomer could cause you to fade into obscurity,” he warned.
Mayorkun suggested that upcoming musicians should first work on developing their sound, promoting their music and building a loyal audience before considering a more private public persona.
Wizkid, one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars, is known for maintaining a relatively private lifestyle, with limited public appearances outside music-related activities.
However, Mayorkun’s advice suggests that what works for an established star may not necessarily benefit an emerging musician who is still trying to gain recognition.
The singer’s comments highlight the importance of visibility and audience engagement in the early stages of an artiste’s career, particularly in a music industry where competition for attention is intense.
His message to upcoming performers is clear: establish a strong presence, build a fan base and create a recognisable identity before adopting strategies associated with global music stars.
