Fenerbahçe forward Vedat Muriqi has warned Victor Osimhen that he should expect a difficult outing when Galatasaray face their city rivals in the Turkish Süper Lig on Monday.
Muriqi expressed confidence in Fenerbahçe’s defensive strength, insisting that his teammates have the ability to contain the Nigerian striker during the highly anticipated derby at Rams Park.
Osimhen has maintained an impressive record against Fenerbahçe since joining Galatasaray, remaining unbeaten in five official meetings with the Yellow-Navy Blues.
The 27-year-old has recorded two wins and two draws in four league encounters against the rivals, scoring once. He also played a decisive role in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Fenerbahçe in the 2024/25 Türkiye Cup quarter-final, scoring twice.
While acknowledging Osimhen’s quality, Muriqi said Fenerbahçe’s defensive organisation and teamwork could help neutralise the Super Eagles striker’s threat.
“He’s a very strong and good player, but I trust my teammates,” Muriqi told beIN Sports, according to Turk Inform.
“I think our defensive line can neutralise Osimhen’s quickness and gain the upper hand.”
Osimhen heads into the derby after failing to score in Galatasaray’s previous two Süper Lig matches, in which the club secured victories over Kasımpaşa and Gençlerbirliği.
The Nigerian forward subsequently ended his goal drought by scoring against his former club, Lille, in the UEFA Champions League.
Monday’s encounter is expected to provide another test for Osimhen as Galatasaray seek to maintain their strong domestic form against their Istanbul rivals.
Muriqi, meanwhile, will be hoping that Fenerbahçe’s defensive approach delivers the result his side needs against a Galatasaray team featuring one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
