A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter has returned safely to base after making a precautionary landing on farmland in Makurdi, Benue State, following an operation targeting suspected kidnappers.
The helicopter had provided close air support to ground troops conducting an operation in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area, near the Benue–Enugu boundary, the Air Force said.
According to the NAF, the operation disrupted the activities of the suspected kidnappers and supported the advance of ground forces.
While returning to base, the pilot decided to land in the Utur Tse-Igboji area, approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield.
The Air Force described the landing as a precautionary measure carried out in line with established operational procedures and aviation safety protocols following combat missions.
The helicopter subsequently returned safely to base. The NAF did not report any casualties in connection with the incident.
The landing comes just days after a fatal Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State. However, the Air Force has not linked the two incidents, and no connection between them has been established.
The NAF said it would continue to provide air support to security forces working to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country.
