Naira Holds Around ₦1,326/$ at Official Market as Dollar Trades Near ₦1,390 Elsewhere

The naira has opened Tuesday relatively stable against the US dollar, trading at about ₦1,326.30 per dollar at Nigeria’s official foreign exchange market.

However, the rate outside the official market remains higher, with the dollar quoted around ₦1,380 to ₦1,390. That creates a difference of roughly ₦60 per dollar between the two markets.

The gap remains important for businesses and Nigerians who need foreign currency, as the rate available to them can vary depending on the market and the nature of the transaction.

The official rate of ₦1,326.30 suggests relative stability for the naira at the start of Tuesday’s trading session. But the higher rates seen elsewhere show that pressure and differences in foreign exchange pricing have not disappeared.

For importers and other businesses that rely heavily on dollars, even a ₦60 difference can significantly affect costs, depending on the volume of foreign currency required.

The naira’s performance will therefore remain under close watch as trading continues, particularly if the official rate stays stable while other market rates remain elevated.

The key question for Nigerians is whether this relative stability will eventually translate into lower prices for goods and services, especially those affected by foreign exchange costs.
