Nigeria international Nathan Tella has expressed his ambition to help Bayer Leverkusen win the UEFA Europa League title this season.

Leverkusen are set to face Polish side Lech Poznan in a Matchday Two fixture at the Poznan Stadium on Thursday, as they continue their European campaign.

The winger reflected on the club’s memorable 2023/24 Europa League run, when Leverkusen reached the final in Dublin after an unbeaten campaign in the competition.

Tella said the German side hoped to build on those experiences and their recent performances as they pursue another successful European campaign.

“Those were magical nights. We want to build on those, as well as the last few games,” the Nigeria international was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

The former Burnley player also highlighted the personal significance of the competition, recalling that it provided his first experience of European football.

“This competition means a lot to me. They were my first games in Europe,” Tella said.

Tella scored his first goal for Leverkusen in the Europa League on October 5, 2023, finding the net in a 2-1 victory over Norwegian club Molde.

The winger will be hoping to contribute to Leverkusen’s ambitions as they seek to make another strong impression in the competition.
