At least five prominent figures associated with the Obidient Movement are absent from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s newly unveiled campaign council for the 2027 general elections, raising questions about the composition of the team supporting Peter Obi’s presidential bid.

The figures identified in a report by DAILY POST are Aisha Yesufu, political commentator Isaac Fayose, former Obidient Movement Secretary-General Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, grassroots mobiliser Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee, and Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter.

The five were recognised for their roles in mobilising support for Obi during the 2023 presidential election. However, their names were not included in the campaign council list cited in the report. The reason for their absence has not been established.

The NDC unveiled its National Campaign Council over the weekend as the party stepped up preparations for the 2027 elections. The council is chaired by the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, with Obi serving as co-chairman and the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, occupying a senior leadership position.

The party also announced a National Campaign Advisory Council and state campaign coordinators.

The absence of the five Obidient figures has attracted attention online, particularly because of their previous involvement in mobilising support for Obi. However, their omission from the published list does not, on its own, establish whether they have been excluded from all campaign activities or whether other roles may be considered.

Reactions on social media have included criticism and mockery directed at some of the missing figures, particularly Yesufu. An X user identified as @JohnFanimoku questioned her absence in a post that made allegations about campaign funding, while Lere Olayinka, a media aide to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, also commented on the development. The claims and remarks were opinions expressed by the individuals, rather than established explanations for the appointments.

Neither an official explanation for the five figures’ absence nor a response from the individuals was provided in the report. The development comes as the NDC builds its campaign structure around Obi and Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.
