The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Sadique Wase, has commended three senior officers posted out of the division for their professionalism, loyalty and contributions to military service.

Wase gave the commendation during a send-off ceremony at the division’s headquarters conference room in Kaduna, where he urged the departing officers to maintain their commitment to duty and uphold the Nigerian Army’s standards in their new assignments.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Jingina, the GOC praised the officers for their contributions to the formation, popularly known as the “Stallion Family.”

He encouraged them to remain focused on their military careers and continue to demonstrate the discipline, integrity and professionalism expected of Nigerian Army personnel.

Wase also urged the officers to serve as worthy ambassadors of the division wherever their new postings take them, stressing the importance of sustaining the values and traditions of the military institution.

Speaking on behalf of the departing officers, Brigadier General Oluwasegun Okungbure expressed gratitude to God for His protection and guidance throughout their service in the division.

Okungbure also thanked the GOC for organising the ceremony and acknowledged the support received from the Chief of Staff, commanders, principal staff officers and other colleagues during their time in the formation.

He assured Wase that the officers would continue to uphold the division’s values and represent the Nigerian Army positively in their new responsibilities.

Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Corps Members’ Security

In a related development, Wase has reaffirmed 1 Division’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to improve the safety and security of corps members serving in Kaduna State.

The GOC gave the assurance on October 15, 2026, when he received the Kaduna State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Abubakar Bawa, during a familiarisation visit to the division’s headquarters in Kaduna.

Bawa explained that the visit was aimed at formally introducing himself and strengthening the existing relationship between the NYSC and the Nigerian Army.

He acknowledged the military’s continued support, particularly its role in providing security for corps members during orientation exercises.

The NYSC coordinator also appealed for sustained cooperation to ensure the safety of corps members across the state.

Responding, Wase welcomed the delegation and assured the scheme of the division’s continued support in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.

He highlighted the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity, integration and youth development, noting the importance of cooperation among government institutions in achieving these objectives.

The engagements underscore 1 Division’s stated commitment to recognising the contributions of its personnel while maintaining partnerships with institutions involved in youth development, national integration and security.

The division, headquartered in Kaduna, plays a role in the Nigerian Army’s operations and security responsibilities within its area of responsibility.
