Lagos, Imo and Ondo have recorded some of Nigeria’s highest food inflation rates in September 2026, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The figures are contained in the NBS September 2026 Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report, which tracks changes in consumer prices across the country.
On a year-on-year basis, Imo State recorded the highest food inflation rate at 33.79 per cent, followed by Lagos State at 33.40 per cent and Ondo State at 31.49 per cent.
The figures highlight the varying pressures on food prices across the states, with residents in the affected areas facing significant increases in the cost of food compared with the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Taraba, Yobe and Borno recorded the slowest year-on-year food inflation rates, according to the report.
The NBS data also showed differences in month-on-month food inflation across the country. Imo, Ondo and Oyo recorded the highest increases in food inflation during the month, while Adamawa, Kano and Bauchi recorded the slowest increases.
At the national level, Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased to 14.64 per cent in September 2026. However, food inflation rose to 19.59 per cent during the same period, indicating that food prices remained a major source of inflationary pressure.
The latest figures underline the uneven impact of rising food costs across Nigeria, as households continue to contend with the cost of essential goods.
