Nigerian Troops Overrun ISWAP Camp in Borno, Insurgents Flee, Abandon Weapons

Nigerian troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) have reportedly overrun an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) camp in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Footage from the reported operation has surfaced online, showing troops and CJTF members at the location after the camp was taken over. The video was shared on X by investigative news channel BSN.

Several ISWAP fighters reportedly fled the camp as the security forces moved in, leaving behind weapons, equipment and other materials.

The reported operation represents another effort by Nigerian security forces to disrupt the activities of insurgent groups operating across Borno State, one of the areas most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and the emergence of ISWAP.

The military has continued to rely on joint operations involving regular troops and local security groups such as the CJTF to locate insurgent positions, disrupt their networks and prevent attacks on communities.

The CJTF has played a significant role in supporting security operations in northeastern Nigeria, particularly through its knowledge of local terrain and communities.

While details of the operation, including the number of insurgents who escaped and the quantity of weapons recovered, were not immediately available, the reported capture of the camp could disrupt ISWAP activities in the Damboa area.

Security forces are expected to continue operations against terrorist positions in Borno as authorities seek to improve security and enable displaced residents to return to affected communities.
