The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and murderer linked to the brutal killing of a commercial motorcyclist, a case that has shaken residents across the state.
The suspect, Adebayo Isiaka Akanbi, was picked up by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), with a stolen motorcycle belonging to the victim recovered during the operation.
Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday, noting that the breakthrough followed weeks of coordinated intelligence and digital tracking.
The case dates back to February 2026 when the victim, Tiramiyu Afeez, left home on his motorcycle for daily commercial work but never returned. His disappearance was first reported at the “A” Division Police Station in Ede on February 23.
According to police accounts, a patrol team later discovered an unidentified body along the Ojo-Ara–Ejigbo road. The remains were found in a pool of blood, with early findings indicating the victim’s throat had been slit.
Family members later identified the body as that of Afeez, prompting a full-scale homicide investigation after the case was transferred to the SCID in Osogbo.
Investigators say intelligence gathering and technological analysis eventually led to the arrest of the suspect on April 18, 2026. Officers also recovered the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle along with two ignition keys.
Police further disclosed that the suspect allegedly lured the motorcyclist to the Ara-Ejigbo axis through a phone call before attacking and killing him and escaping with the bike.
During interrogation, Akanbi reportedly admitted to disposing of the knife used in the attack and also getting rid of the victim’s mobile phone.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan said the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed. He assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling violent crime and will not allow Osun State to become a safe haven for criminals.
