Fresh praise has poured in for the youth-focused policies of Alex Chioma Otti as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) inaugurated newly elected Local Government executives across Abia State.
The commendation came during the inauguration ceremony held at the Umuahia North Local Government Headquarters on Wednesday, where the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Ebere Uzoukwa, described Governor Otti as a leader deliberately investing in the future of young people.
Uzoukwa said the Abia State government has continued to prioritise youth empowerment, leadership development and human capital growth through policies targeted at preparing young people for opportunities in the modern economy.
Among the programmes highlighted was the Abia TechRise initiative, which he said is equipping youths with practical digital and technology skills needed to thrive globally. According to him, the programme exposes participants to software development, digital innovation and emerging technology-driven careers.
He also pointed to the Abia Leadership Academy as a major platform created to nurture disciplined and transformational young leaders capable of contributing to governance, entrepreneurship and community development.
The governor’s aide added that the administration has sustained several youth-oriented interventions, including entrepreneurship support schemes, skills acquisition programmes, innovation-driven engagements and infrastructure projects designed to expand economic opportunities for young people across the state.
Uzoukwa said Governor Otti’s governance style has helped restore confidence among many youths, noting that transparency and accountability in leadership are encouraging renewed faith in public institutions.
He also commended the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Abia, led by Smith Sylvanus, for conducting what he described as peaceful, transparent and credible local government elections.
According to him, the smooth conduct of the exercise reflects increasing political maturity and democratic consciousness among youths in the state.
Uzoukwa urged the newly inaugurated executives to approach leadership with responsibility and commitment, stressing the need to promote unity, peace and inclusive youth participation across their respective local government areas.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding programmes that empower young people, strengthen leadership capacity and create more opportunities for Abia youths.
