Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde Meeting Fuels Fresh Speculation Over Opposition Alliance Ahead of 2027

A public show of unity between Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renewed questions about whether Nigeria’s opposition parties can overcome their differences and build a common strategy for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi and Makinde followed different political paths during the 2023 election, but their recent appearance together has sparked fresh speculation about possible cooperation between the two politicians.

Obi attended the opening of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja, where he publicly described the Oyo governor as qualified to become Nigeria’s president.

The appearance has added to growing discussions among opposition politicians about forming a stronger political front against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 election.

However, there is no confirmed Obi–Makinde coalition at this stage. Both politicians remain presidential contenders, while the wider opposition movement continues to grapple with competing ambitions and disagreements over who should lead any potential alliance.
