Police Detonate IED Hidden in Backpack During Patrol in Maiduguri

A potential disaster was averted in Maiduguri after police operatives uncovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device concealed in a backpack during a routine patrol.

The device was discovered on Tuesday morning in the Layin Logo area of Moduganari, prompting an immediate response from the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Nahim Daso, officers on surveillance identified the abandoned bag around 9:00 a.m., raising suspicion due to its unusual placement.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was quickly deployed to the scene, where specialists confirmed the presence of an improvised explosive device hidden inside the bag.

Following standard safety protocols, the device was successfully neutralised through a controlled detonation, preventing any harm to residents in the area.

Police authorities have urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious objects or individuals, stressing that early detection remains critical in preventing attacks.

Investigations are ongoing to determine who planted the device and whether it is linked to broader security threats in the region.

The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of the North-East, where vigilance by both security agencies and civilians continues to play a key role in preventing potential attacks.
