Rufai Oseni Challenges NDC, Vows Tough Scrutiny of Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Elections

Pressure is mounting on the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) as media personality Rufai Oseni signals a no-holds-barred interrogation of the party’s vision—and its likely presidential contender, Peter Obi.

Speaking during a broadcast on Arise Television, Oseni made it clear that early momentum and political defections will not be enough to convince Nigerians. What matters, he argued, is a concrete and credible roadmap for governance.

He warned that the NDC must urgently present a clear manifesto and ideological direction, especially as it prepares to select its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 elections. Without that clarity, he suggested, public confidence could quickly erode.

“The only challenge I see is on the NDC now to be able to tell us what they’re going to do for the Nigerian people, and that’s what I’m going to scrutinize them based on,” Oseni said. He added that the party has only a short window to define its agenda.

Oseni also disclosed plans to personally interview Obi, stressing that the former Anambra governor must go beyond broad promises and present detailed, actionable policies. He insisted that any candidate seeking to lead Nigeria must demonstrate a firm grasp of complex economic and social issues.

Key areas he highlighted include foreign exchange management, fuel subsidy reforms, welfare programmes, and broader economic stability. According to him, these are not talking points but urgent national concerns that require precise solutions.

“They need to be able to come out with a rigorous plan… we will press his neck,” he said bluntly, underscoring the level of scrutiny he intends to apply. He maintained that leadership ambitions must be backed by verifiable strategies, not rhetoric.

Oseni concluded with a warning: if the NDC fails to clearly outline its direction in the coming days, he would become one of its strongest critics. For him, the stakes go beyond politics—arguing that Nigeria cannot afford another cycle of vague promises without measurable outcomes.
