Fresh political speculation ahead of the 2027 general election has pushed former Bauchi governorship aspirant, Farouk Mustapha, into the spotlight after reports emerged linking him to a possible vice-presidential slot under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
But Mustapha has now dismissed the reports, describing them as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Bauchi politician denied claims that he had been approached by the APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, to serve as a running mate in the next presidential election.
According to him, no conversation or agreement has taken place regarding any vice-presidential nomination.
“My attention has been drawn to speculations making the rounds on social media alleging that the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement is considering me as his running mate in the forthcoming election,” Mustapha said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state categorically that no such arrangement has been discussed with me, nor have I given my consent to any such proposition,” he added.
The former governorship aspirant stressed that he had not engaged anyone within the APM on the matter and insisted that the rumours lacked any factual basis.
“At no point have I had any discussion with anyone, whether within the APM or with its presidential candidate, regarding the position of running mate. Therefore, any claim suggesting that I have agreed to such an arrangement is entirely false and without foundation,” he stated.
Mustapha explained that he decided to address the issue publicly after receiving multiple enquiries from supporters, journalists, and political associates seeking clarification over the viral reports.
Using a Hausa proverb to drive home his point, he said, “Kowa ya san matar auren sa,” meaning everyone knows his own bride, adding that it was necessary to clear the air before the rumours gained more traction.
He also urged residents of Bauchi State, political supporters, and the general public to ignore the claims circulating online, insisting they were mere political speculation.
The politician further disclosed that he is currently in Saudi Arabia, where he is focused on prayers and seeking divine direction concerning his future political plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
