Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have been nominated for the National Team of the Year category at the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
The 10-time African champions earned the nomination despite a disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they were eliminated by eventual champions Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The team also failed to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Falconets goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma has been shortlisted for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award following her impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Uzoma faces competition from Cameroon’s Michaely Bihina, who won the Golden Glove at WAFCON 2026, Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi, South Africa’s Andile Dlamini and Ghana’s Cynthia Konlan.
In the Women’s Young Player of the Year category, Falconets striker Janet Akekoromowei and Flamingos forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi have also secured nominations.
The winners across the various categories will be determined through votes from the CAF Technical Committee, media representatives, national team captains and coaches.
The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled to hold on Monday, December 7, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.
