Tinubu Aide Nwabufo Says Peter Obi Lacks Governance Plan, Defends President’s Record on National Unity

A fresh political clash has erupted ahead of the 2027 general election after President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Engagement, Fredrick Nwabufo, accused Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi of lacking a clear understanding of governance.

Nwabufo made the remarks while reacting to Obi’s recent interview, in which the former Anambra State governor promised to unite Nigeria if elected president in 2027. He argued that Obi’s comments relied on emotion rather than practical policies capable of addressing the country’s challenges.

In a statement released on Friday, Nwabufo said Obi had yet to present a concrete blueprint for governance, insisting that his public statements lacked clear policy direction.

“Peter Obi’s interview shows him again to be vacant of deep thought, understanding of governance, and taken up by syrupy rhetoric. He still has no plan, no alternative, and no policy plank, beyond a mouthful of sentimental nothings,” Nwabufo stated.

Questioning Obi’s pledge to unite the country, the presidential aide said the NDC candidate failed to explain how such a goal would be achieved beyond highlighting the regional backgrounds of members of his party and political allies.

Nwabufo argued that national unity is built through inclusive governance, economic integration and equal treatment of citizens, rather than political rhetoric. He maintained that effective leadership and equitable distribution of public resources remain the key drivers of national cohesion.

Defending the Tinubu administration, he said the Federal Government has ensured that projects, programmes and development initiatives are spread across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. He also claimed the administration has promoted inclusive governance by appointing young professionals from diverse backgrounds into strategic positions.

The comments add to the growing exchange between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition figures as political parties intensify positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
